Whether it's work, school, soccer, cheerleading, or even volunteering in our community, we support each other here at Hawkins' Haven. Take a peek to see what we get into. :)

Well, volleyball tryouts are over!! We have a team picked out and can't wait to get started on Monday. I can wait, however, for upset kids and parents. That's never a fun part. At least it's not all on me. Having 4 other coaches there making decisions really helps. It's not little league any more and some don't understand cuts or the fact it's not 'pay and play'. We have to put the best team on the court at any given time. It is competitive. When there are 36 kids trying out and you're only keeping half of them, people are going to get cut. It's just that sometimes I think kids are given their way so much sometimes that they expect to get what they want all the time. The worst part is the parents that are fostering those thoughts. Billy and I make sure our kids know that when you try out for things there's always the chance they won't make it. I'd rather prepare them for the let down and then be surprised with good news than the other way around. Oh, well, it is what it is. :)

Ready to Fiesta
Well, I sent lots of invites today to my Close To My Heart fiesta. I hope I have at least a quarter of the people I invited to show up. I'm kind of excited and can't wait to share creativity with others.
On the home front, Elyssa is finding out what true friendship is..... or isn't. I find it hard to help her out because I haven't found myself in her situation. I just gave her a listening ear and hope that everything works itself it out. She's got lots of learning to do.
I was also glad to see John Fay back from New York today. He's been gone a few months for work. His family has missed him a lot. Yvonne was über excited to pick him up. :)
Not much else to say except church in the morning so going to bed. :)

PHD
Well, I finally did it! I finished my PHD! My Close to My Heart PHD, that is. :) I don't know if I'll ever take the step, open up those student loans again and go beyond my masters, but at least I went the extra step with Close to My Heart! I am excited to be taking this next step. I know that someday I will retire from the classroom and won't be able to just stay at home so I figure that this would be a great way to keep busy. I hope to start out on the right foot with my sales and eventually, earn a trip somewhere. It's be awesome to earn the honeymoon I never had. It may take me a few years, but maybe by the time I reach my 25th anniversary in 7 years I can be at that point. :)
